INCCA NA Artist Interview Workshop

The INCCA NA Artist Interview Workshops were at the Guggenheim in NYC. In a room of art conservators, I was the media preservationist trying not to always talk about media. Led by Professor Richard Cándida-Smith and SFMoMA collections manager/art conservator Jill Sterrett, highlights included:

  • former Menil Collection art conservator Carol Mancusi-Ungaro talked about The Artist Documentation Initiative. Good discussion of gaining rapport with major artists. You can watch the videos online!
  • Glenn Wharton, art conservator at MoMA, discusses his strategy and outline for interviewing artists who work in media based artworks.
  • A lawyer from the Guggenheim, in a spontaneous discussion, tells us that the Artist Interview is positioned as the authoritative source for installation and preservation of artworks, should the artist change their mind over time. Made the whole thing worth it..

My post on the INCCA-NA blog about this event..
