BIFF and Side by Side

At the Buffalo Film Festival, I went to see Side by Side, which tells the story of the ‘science, art, and impact of digital cinema’. I wanted it to be a comparison of 35mm and Digital, with intelligent perspectives on the pros and cons of both, but it really turned out to be more on the history of the digital movement and a little lambasting of those that prefer film. Still, overall, I think it was a valuable snapshot of this moment in film production and exhibition, with good information on the evolution of digital cameras. And, a final section on archiving, without delving too deep into it, at least gave my profession a shot out (although not enough really..). One day I will show this to my students, when I have some again.
